Student pairs conduct a simulated coin flipping experiment to discover the Law of Large Numbers.
Each pair of students performs a coin flipping experiment via an online virtual simulation. The simulation results are recorded in an Excel spreadsheet. After entering the number of successes (flipping a head), the spreadsheet computes failures (flipping a tail), percentages of successes and failures, and immediately graphs the success percentage. The lab sheet document provides instructions for the student to perform the simulation, answer questions regarding the collected data, and, ultimately, “discover” the Law of Large Numbers.
