Used to help students synthesize and categorize events in U.S. History. I made this for my AP class it worked well to bring together seemingly isolated events so students could visualize cause and effect as well as continuity and change over time.
Procedure: Draw 6 timelines on your whiteboard. Divide class into 6 groups. Each group is responsible for filling in one timeline with 10 events and presenting their timeline to the class. (For the sake of saving time, I would have students write their timeline info onto the board and then copy down the other 5 timelines. The purpose of the activity is active and authentic synthesis, not making a timeline to study later.) Once everyone has their timelines filled in, it becomes an individual synthesis activity.
