Product Description

This French authentic text cultural reading is a French and Francophone Christmas activity that breaks down 11 different regions in France and countries that speak French and their Christmas traditions. The Francophone holiday traditions as well as regions of France are separated into French Christmas station activities for level 1 or level 2 French learners. The blog post is entirely in French, but the cultural reading activities are designed for novice level French learners.

Using this authentic blog post, you can teach your students about French and Francophone culture while sharpening their reading skills! This task is specifically designed to work for any level of French, as students are required to summarize the traditions for each region/country. As the level increases, the summaries will merely be more detailed.

This activity requires dictionaries and your weapon of choice: either butcher paper or whiteboards at each station for students to create their own word bank.

For the station activity, I separate the students into about 11 groups (pairs work well) and have them sit at a station. I tape a picture to a desk and number the station, and provide each station with a whiteboard and a marker.

Students have 5 minutes ( I use a timer) to read the text for each region, look up unknown words, and try to summarize what they understand in at least 2 sentences in English. Ask students to keep a running word bank as they look up new words for each section. They will write these either on the whiteboards or butcher paper.

Then show the class the link to the blog post so they can see them all in context:

Blog Post Petit Frenchies The blog post is completely untouched and is protected by copyright—this is a teachable version for classroom teaching purposes with visually pleasing graphics and an answer sheet.

You could complete this station activity with 1 block period or 2 45 min periods.
