This activity is ideal for communication and comprehension skills. The objective is to be able to give and understand directions. This packet comes with activity instructions, vocabulary list, exercises for comprehension of the vocabulary, and a town map in color (with and without the text) and in black and white. This activity works well as an individual handout or as a group activity. The image of the map may be projected on the wall so that the students or teacher giving the directions may follow along. They will observe if the person receiving the directions understands them correctly and is able to arrive at the chosen destination. The teacher may also want to give the handout to each student or team and give directions to a chosen destination unknown to the students. When the teacher arrives at his/her destination, students or groups must see if they understood the directions correctly and if they are at the same location. Students may also want to color and create their own town using the black and white drawing provided or make up their own names for the streets on the color map without the text.
This activity is reproducible for classroom use and is ready to use. No advanced preparation is needed.
