Description

As a Leadership teacher, it's hard to find free or cheap curriculum for character building and community service, so I have created some of my own projects. I have a 7th/8th grade mixed class, and I use these projects every year because students like to do them again just researching someone else or interviewing a new friend. Included in this file is:

Leader Research Project
Character Essay
Communication Project
Community Service Project

I usually start the year with some games/activities about leadership skills. Then I have them write a short paragraph about the leadership skills they think they possess and the ones they want to work on. From there, we do the Leader Research Project where they research a famous leader. 2nd Quarter we work on the Character Essay and the Communication Project (after doing some lessons on perspective and communication). 3rd Quarter I always do the Community Service Project and I give them basically the entire quarter because it's a big project. I end the year with writing a letter to next year's class about their year in Leadership.

Students weren't overly engaged in this process; probably won't use again.

I'm sorry to hear that! I usually do one project per quarter and then also engage them with the many hands-on activities and events like Homecoming parade, school dances, fundraisers, etc. This school year it's certainly hard to engage students overall, especially as we can't do as many of the fun activities in groups like before. :)
