This is a lesson plan to promote writing skills. Students will explore how writers write in different styles and genres to create the opening lines to stories. Students will have an opportunity to create their own leads and work both in groups and alone. In addition this lesson has three tiers for different learners. Two supplementary lesson ideas are provided (a writer's notebook: how writers are inspired and Memoir Back Covers).
