This is a poster and worksheet I made of the 5 most common leaf shapes. The 5 shapes include orbicular, elliptic, ovate, obovate, and reniform. Leaf shape is an important part of plant identification for botanists, teachers, and students!
The worksheet is meant for a hands-on lesson where students go on a quick field trip outside and find 2 disimilar leaves. On the worksheet they will draw detailed illustrations of their leaves and write a description of each leaf. This is a great introduction to botany or plant identification, or just a fun science activity for getting outside and learning how to observe nature more closely!
Note for teachers: If a leaf has lobes (like a maple leaf), you want to imagine those lobes are really connected and look at the overall shape of the leaf.
