An extraordinary situation calls for an extraordinary leader, at Eastside High School, that leader was Mr. Clark.
Lean on Me is the true story of a high school principal Joe Clark, who armed
himself with a bullhorn and a Louisville slugger and slammed the door on
losers at Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey.
He was brought in as a last hope to save the school. He chained the doors shut to keep the troublemakers out and the strivers in. Parents fought him. Teachers fought him.
Lots of kids loved him. Mr. Clark turned Eastside High School around,
becoming a national symbol of tough-love education and appeared on the
cover of Time. ―If you students don't succeed in life, says Mr. Clark, ―I
want you to blame yourselves.
