This folder game is perfect for any phonics center. The students focus on determining what a word starts with by hearing the first letter sound. It is based off of candy land so it is easy to explain and play, plus the kids love it! With three different levels of picture cards, this is an easily differentiated center.
Three levels of picture cards:
1. Hard - Cards with just the picture force students to really attend to letter sounds to figure out which letter they should move to next!
2. Medium - Cards with the picture and the word spelled below allow students to try and figure out the letter on their own but provide them with a helpful hint below if they need it!
3. Easy - Cards with the letters (uppercase and lowercase) above the picture and the word below help students who are just beginning to identify letters or are not confident in letter sounds yet!
There are five different versions of the game board included in this pack. Versions include: letters A - K (uppercase and lowercase), letters L - Z (uppercase and lowercase), letters A - Z (uppercase and lowercase), letters A - K (lowercase only), and letters L - Z (lowercase only).
This game also works particularly well with English language learners. The pictures help to develop additional vocabulary as the students become more familiar with the pictures and they also solidify their letter-sound knowledge!
Applies directly to the Common Core standards under Reading: Foundational skills (CCSS ELA-Literacy.RF.K.3.A and CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.2.C).
**Note** Only the most common letter sounds are included in the pictures. Only short vowels are included.
I'm new to teachers pay teachers, so any constructive feedback would be much appreciated! I hope your kids love this game as much as mine do!
