Here is a set of 24 Centre Icon Cards I created for my class. Each Icon Card comes with a matching Centre Sign to help students match the small job board icon with the large icon card around the room (at the centre itself). Some of my centres are stored in marked bins (i.e., Science and Play-dough). The kids take them out as needed and work in designated areas around the room. Others, like Water, Sand, and Puppets remain in one area for the duration of the year. Essentially, how we organize the room will be based on the amount of space we have and our student’s needs. Throughout the year and depending on what we are learning I may close some centres and add others. I included a blank icon card, as well as a blank centre sign so that you may add your own, if need be. I generally assign a specific number of students to each centre, to avoid overcrowding. To make this visual and easier for the students, I attach the same number of Student Templates (to the Icon Sign) as the centre allows (i.e., two templates affixed to Water Centre Sign, four to Sand Centre Sign). Bonus: A Student Template, as well as 10 Centre Follow-up Activity sheets are included in the package.
The Centre Icons include: Home, Computer, Painting, Science, Math, Writing, Poems and Songs, Read the Room, Water, Games, Library, ABC, Little Teacher, Sand, Music, Building, Puppets, Listening, Pocket-Chart, Play-Dough, Finger Games, Puzzles, Arts and Crafts, and a Blank Template. Centre Icon Signs are also included for each of the 24 centre listed above.
