We created Comprehension Skill Lessons to save daily prep time, but also to get our students talking, doing and moving and still hold them accountable to the learning. Our classrooms are lively and exciting during these lessons. We have great success teaching these lessons whole group, small group, using them for RTI intervention and then having students use them to comprehend during their independent reading practiced.
Using chart paper and markers, we were creating anchor charts each morning before students arrived to school. Students would sit in a group as we taught the comprehension skills lesson. We had them pair share many times during the lesson but they were never moving, held accountable for discussing text, or recording information during the lesson. We took our simple “I Do”, “We Do”, “You Do” Anchor Chart lesson and created no prep, comprehension skill lessons that are ready to print and teach. Students are now actively engaged and learning the comprehension skills.
