Gifted students.Early finishers. We all have those students who sometimes need that extra push, another challenge that they can conquer. The question is – how do we challenge those students with meaningful work, without having the teacher do a ton of extra work?
The answer is.. LEARNING CONTRACTS! A learning contract is an enrichment project that students complete independently. You can make this as easy or as complicated as you want.
→Reading a challenging book, completing activities about the book, and giving a short presentation to the class
→Designing an anchor chart depicting a math strategy, writing word problems, and “teaching” small groups how to use the anchor chart and what they learned
Checkpoints are included for you to meet with students to review their work, and provide feedback along the way. These projects can be as short or as long as you want, and could be done solely in class or have a component to complete at home.
For larger projects (or even if you just want to keep parents informed) there is a form that includes a parent signature to keep families informed about what their child is working on in class.
This could be done in small groups, or independently.
