I believe it’s important for children to have targets in their education. Setting daily and/or weekly math learning goals can provide them with a clear direction and motivation. Curriculum documents are often wordy and beyond a student’s level of understanding. Therefore I created these learning goals with a students’ understanding in mind. They’re a wonderful visual in the classroom and students can easily reference them and then self-reflect on whether or not they feel they've mastered any given learning goal.
These learning goals are based on the grade 8 math curriculum in Ontario, Canada. While many of these expectations closely correlate to America’s Common Core Standards, I do recommend you read the entire list of learning goals included in the preview, before you make your purchase.
The Ontario curriculum for mathematics has all learning outcomes divided into five strands; Number Sense and Numeration, Measurement, Geometry and Spatial Sense, Patterning and Algebra and Data Management and Probability. The learning goals are colour coded according to the strand.
In addition to each set of goals, I have included two blanks per strand so that you may add your own math learning goals. There is also a complete set of goals in black and white should you wish to save on coloured ink, and simply print out these goals on coloured paper.
