This is an eye pleasing PowerPoint that focuses on the vocabulary words and their definitions that are needed to read a map such as: Grid, Latitude, Equator, Parallels, Degrees, Longitude, Prime meridian, Meridians, Hemisphere, Compass Rose, Absolute location, and Legend. It does not go into detail. The definitions are short so they can be understood easily by students.
It includes ideas (now located in the note section as well as the at the end of the PowerPoint because some teachers didn't notice them after they downloaded), on how to connect the vocabulary words to background knowledge as well as reinforce the content using the Multiple Intelligence Theory.
The only vocabulary word that doesn't have an idea about how to help your students remember, is absolute location and that is because in the lesson plan, that is not provided in this download, a full kinesthetic activity is given. This is part of the full "Learning How to Read Maps Lesson Plan" that is not included in this download.
It is included in the BUNDLE that has this PowerPoint and the lesson plan in it. In the lesson plan are 3 leveled versions of a vocabulary note sheet that go along with the PowerPoint, two spatial and kinesthetic activities, 3 practice reading maps worksheets and a paragraph writing assignment for homework.
