Learning progressions for all 4th grade math standards (including sub-standards like 4MD5a). Learning progressions include descriptions of what students can understand/do if they are meeting, exceeding, progressing toward, or beginning a standard. Each progression is included as a PDF and as a .docx. Depending on the order in which you teach your standards or the tools/manipulatives available in your classroom, you may wish to edit some of the progressions.
Learning progressions can be used for teacher assessment, peer assessment, or student self-assessment. Parents may be provided with learning progressions to help them to understand their child's progress. Learning progressions can be used to help teachers look for specific evidence of learning/understanding/performance. They can also be used as the basis for a discussion with your classroom about the expectations for a unit and can be a good foundation for creating success criteria. Learning progressions may be posted in the classroom during a unit, or they may be printed out and provided to students for use during a unit. Learning progressions can be included in student portfolios along with student work that shows evidence of the level the student has attained.
