Product Description

I have created these learning station task cards that ask students to build or sculpt their understanding of the 16 Habits of Mind. As students sculpt and build, they will deepen their understanding of the Habits of Mind, and hopefully they will more readily adopt these helpful habits in their everyday lives. I believe your students will enjoy these task cards. Innovation and creativity will flourish!

Why is it as students get older we believe they no longer need to create and work with their hands? When students are allowed to think, read, and write about abstract concepts, and then represent those concepts in a creative way, their retention and understanding is enhanced. Middle and high school students need opportunities to move around, and work with their hands just as much as younger students. In addition to the intrinsic benefits of students being allowed to manipulate simple building and sculpting materials, employers in all career fields are looking for employees who can think critically and creatively.

What you get:

  • Teacher directions
  • 48 task cards--36 Build It! task cards, duplicated for the Sculpt It! task cards
  • Student instructions
  • Learning Station sign/poster
  • Full color photos of sample creations

*Note: I did not supply a rubric for this creative activity. This is in accordance with my educational philosophy as listed in my profile. Sometimes it's good to just let the students create and learn just for education's sake.

Supplies needed:

LEGOS or other building blocks

Modeling clay
