The Learning To Listen sounds are a key part of intervention for young children who utilize cochlear implants and hearing aids to teach language and auditory skills. This no prep resource will make that easy for you and fun for the child!
Each of the 30 BOOM CARDS™ plays a Learning To Listen sound and shows two picture choices, one of which is the object/animal that makes the sound played. The child then selects which object/animal makes the sound that was played. The sound automatically plays when the card switches, but can be played again by clicking the "ear" button.
What are the Learning To Listen Sounds?
The Learning To Listen Sounds are a set of common object-sound associations that are used in teaching language and listening to children with hearing loss that utilize hearing technology (cochlear implants, hearing aids, BAHAs).
Why are they important to teach?
Learning the sounds associated with objects and animals is a natural part of language development. It teaches children that sounds have meaning, and that sounds differ from each other in duration, pitch, volume. These sounds are often first words produced by young children.
How do I use the Learning To Listen Sounds?
These sounds should be used as soon as a young child is fitted with hearing technology in play-based therapy and activities. The name of the object/animal should also always be given when talking about the sounds, so that the child will begin to associate the two words together. The sounds should not only be targeted in therapy, but also integrated throughout a child's daily routine.
