The fun and easy way to improve decoding skills - just read the story to the struggling readers. The struggling readers read the sample words.
Schwa “uh” Cat and R the Rooster is a story from the “letter people folk lore” telling about the Vowel-Sound family’s cat named Schwa /Ə/ and R their grandparent’s rooster. The mentor reads how these two animal letters change the sounds made by the Vowel-Sound brothers giving the students a fun way to remember the rules; therefore, making it easy for the student to read the example words.
The "letter people folk lore" stories are good for all readers, but
GREAT FOR STRUGGLING READERS!
We all know that one of the best ways to help a learner remember
is to link what needs to be learned to a silly story and/or a picture.
