This is a great art and science project and goes well with a study on plants, seasons and weather. It is also a great art activity using watercolor paints.
I read a book to my children called "Why Do Leaves Change Color?" by Betsy Maestro.
After we discuss how leaves change colors.
The children will then draw, sharpie and paint a picture to go with a page from a summarized and adapted version of the story.
The pages included are the text that is to be displayed on their art work.
I like to put this out in the hall for all to see and it makes a wonderful display that teaches the students about the changing leaves.
I have taken it a step further and made a slide presentation with their pictures. The parents loved it. After I have displayed it in the hall I put it in a class book to be enjoyed all year long and for many years to come.
Also included in this pack are the letters, "Leaves Change Colors" so you can display with the art work.
Happy teaching! Jane
