Product Description
Composed in 2013, this piece was written for several musical reasons. Using tenuto markings on every note, the song was composed to help students practice breath support by playing musical pitches for their full duration. The use of musical ties was to help students learn to count musical beats when performing two or more notes tied together. Musical slurs were not used to show legato because I did not want the students to confuse musical slurs with the musical ties in the piece.
From a lyrical standpoint, the subject matter of gelato was chosen for two reasons. The first is one possible adjective to describe gelato is smooth, which is how legato phrases in music are to be performed. The other reason is because the word gelato is an anagram for legato, possibly or subconsciously helping students link gelato, the smooth Italian ice cream with legato, the smooth musical phrasing on recorder.
