This PowerPoint describes the basic structure of a theatrical platform, including the names of parts and materials used, before going into greater detail regarding adding legs to lift platforms to a desired height. Students learn to measure height of legs to account for the thickness of the plywood surface, cross brace for safety, identify and install carriage bolts, drill larger bolt holes to the appropriate size, and remove carriage bolts to prevent stripping during set strike.
This presentation includes links to three supporting videos. Credit and links are available on the last slide of the sample and the full presentation.
Students are assumed to have already learned how to drill pilot holes (but not bolt holes), drive screws, and create a square butt joint.
