Product Description
Length. Width. Height. Linear Measurement has mini posters, anchor mat (organizer), and word search.

Mini Posters: There are 5 mini posters that briefly describe length, width, and height and show some of the customary and metric units of measure for linear measurement. The mini posters that show the units of measure have benchmark images to help students develop a stronger measurement sense. The mini posters come in a color version and a black and white version.

Anchor Mat: The anchor mat is an organizer that can be used for students to record key understandings related to linear measurement. It can be added to their journals or folders as a resource to anchor in their learning. Students are encouraged to fill in the sections on the anchor mat with text, symbols, and pictures. The goal is to have students target concise, yet specific, details to demonstrate key understandings. Project the anchor mat onto a whiteboard/screen and complete it as a whole group. For display purposes, students can add color to the anchor mat. It also can be used as a summative assessment.

Word Search: The word search contains terms related to linear measurement. Some of the words included on the word search are length, width, height, measurement, distance, yard, mile, centimeter, kilometer, yardstick, and ruler. Words are found horizontally and vertically only.

Word searches can be an engaging way for students to preview, review, and interact with key vocabulary. The word search can be added to students’ math journals to refer to when incorporating key vocabulary in their mathematical explanations and math discourse. One question to ask students after looking at/completing the word search, “What other words could have been added to this word search on linear measurement and why?” This is a quick question to stretch students’ thinking.
