"Leon the Liar" is a short fiction story about a boy who steals from his teacher, gets caught, and must face his punishment. But there's more to the story. This originally-written story is by Rosa Mauer.
The stand-alone packet includes a short story, twelve comprehension questions about the story, and ten proofread and write sentences. There are lines for student response and answers for the teacher. A short assignment is provided that can be used for early finishers or homework.
Use the questions for group discussion and/or require students to respond to the questions in writing. Use the activity as a whole-group activity, partner activity, or place in a literacy center. Encourage students to think beyond the literal text to discuss and write their responses.
The estimated reading level of the short story is 2.6, but the content will allow for use with students at a variety of grade levels.
