Here is a set of my favorite St. Patrick’s Day writing activities. I have included two poems that we read/create. One I use with the students to make a book to illustrate and reread together. I have also included several other formats for using this poem that work well for a poem journal or a one or two-page poem illustration activity.
The second writing project is a rainbow poem. I have included both one with writing prompts and one without. I use this poem to write a describing poem and challenge the students to use two adjectives in addition to the color to describe an object.
I put up the word wall cards as a reference for student free writing and to use with the acrostic poems. The bubble diagram of the leprechaun is a great brainstorm activity to do before writing the acrostic poem.
Lastly, we create a story, using the First, Next, Then, Last outline for How to Catch a Leprechaun. We read several books about leprechauns before writing our own story.
I hope you have as much fun writing with these activities as we do!
