This project follows the grade 3 Ontario curriculum guidelines for Pioneers. Students can research a Canadian tribe or if needed to simplify, use the Nelson textbook "Communautes du Passe". Students use the 5 senses model to write descriptive sentences and then illustrate the sentences on a cellphone template. At the bottom of the cellphone, students can write their sentences, pretending they are sending a text back home in Europe about what they have learned and seen from the First Nations.
This project includes the following:
* a graphic organizer for writing sentences of what a pioneer would see in a First Nations village
* a sample graphic organizer that could be used as an example to show to the class
* a cell phone template that could be enlarged to 11 x 17
* an evaluation rubric for the project
