A comprehensive unit guide for reading "Les Yeux de Carmen" (a reader purchased through Blaine Ray's TPRS company), this document contains:
-links to pre-reading videos, including an EdPuzzle activities, about French Guiana
-directions for a project that could be used as a pre-reading research task or a post-reading extension activity
-during reading activities for each chapter of Les Yeux de Carmen (11 chapters total), including activities that highlight the use of the Imparfait (designed to introduce the Imparfait)
-a final test, including answer key
Each chapter takes about one full (50 minute) class period if students are reading and finishing the activities in class. The activities and reading can be done independently or intermixed with paired reading, students acting out the chapters, or the teacher reading aloud. In the end, this unit takes approximately 3 weeks to teach but could become shorter or longer depending on homework assigned or extension activities added.
The unit and book address literacy and reading skills as well as improving knowledge of French language and francophone culture and history. It is aligned to the KS World Language Standards. I recommend this reader for students in French 3 and use it to introduce the imparfait.
