☼ The variety of worksheets and activities will help guide your lessons and keep your learners engaged. They can be used throughout your unit or as culminating activities ☼

• Title page for notebooks and/or colouring page (black & white version of product cover).

• L’adaptation à l’hiver: Consider how early communities adapted to the winter season.

• Cartes conceptuelles: Various aspects of the way of life for both early Indigenous and colonial communities. You may wish to use these as a guide for students to create their own concept maps and then compare with a friend.

• Writing prompt: Compare the roles of people living in the early 1800s with those of people living today.

• Identify various jobs of the early 1800s. Students will consider how each job made life easier or more enjoyable and how establishing these goods and services helped form communities.

• Wagon Wheel Venn Diagram; Find similarities and differences between the 1800s and now. Students can choose one topic (i.e. des moyens de transport) and include specific details and examples. As an alternative, students could choose a variety of broader topics to write between the spokes.

• Collaborative Quilt; Ask each student to draw and/or write something about communities in the 1800s and today (Aujourd’hui et Autrefois). Colour and cut out the squares, then assemble them to create a large paper quilt! Makes a great bulletin board. Bulletin Board Letters are included for this purpose. Print them one per page or adjust your printer settings to print multiple for a smaller title. I like to print them on bright neon colours so they really pop!

• Writing Prompts: Six different writing prompts for students to consider. These prompts come in different formats. Large, colour cards can be projected for the whole class or laminated for centres. (They also come in black & white should you wish to print them onto coloured paper instead or use them as student hand-outs). Prompts are also written in small text and print multiple per page so you can cut them up and pass them out. It is also fun to put them all into a ‘draw’ and have students pick a topic randomly.

• Craftivity: Writing Paper and Kid Toppers (8 different kids are included in black & white for colouring - 4 girls and 4 boys). Use these with the writing prompts included or for poems, journals, recipes or other writing assignments. Writing paper can be coloured to look ‘old’ and the kid topper can be cut out and glued to the top. Makes a fun display for the classroom and works well as a writing centre activity.
