This package includes two versions of a simple fold-and-staple booklet that children LOVE to write/fill in. They can be printed on 8 1/2"x11" paper, and are 5 sheets each. The students can decorate and colour in the cover, and fill in the eight subsequent half-sheet pages.
The booklet has two versions. One is for girls (Je suis reconnaissante). The other is for boys (Je suis reconnaissant).
The booklet is about being thankful (reconnaissant)," and has eight pages including, "Je suis reconnaissant pour cette personne: _______,"(x2) "Je suis reconnaissant pour cette nourriture: __________." "Je suis reconnaissant pour ________." It includes 3 other simple sentences that will help them tell about the things in their lives for which they are thankful in French, using familiar vocabulary.
PRIOR to completing the booklets, I introduce the vocabulary, have a community circle, and brainstorm ideas on the SMART board/chart paper. Then, the children mill to music (i.e. walk around the classroom while listening to snip-its of French songs). When the music stops, they talk to each other about all he things for which they are thankful (en français, bien sûr)! After they've had a chance to talk about their ideas, they start writing their booklets.
(I encouraged my students to use a picture dictionary for unfamiliar words or to check for spelling.)
