THEY ARE ALL .pdf FILES!

They are all simple fold-and-staple booklets that children LOVE to write/fill in!

Les livrets - C'est moi

This package includes two simple fold-and-staple booklets that children LOVE to write/fill in. They can be printed on 8 1/2"x11" paper, and are 5 sheets each. The students can decorate and colour in the cover, and fill in the eight subsequent half-sheet pages.

Each booklet has two versions. One is for children who can practice tracing the dotted letters and filling in their answers using ruled blanks. The other is simple primary print with blank lines.

The first booklet is called, "Moi," which has eight pages including, "Je m'appelle__," "J'ai __ ans." "J'ai __ personnes dans ma famille." and 3 other simple sentences that will help them tell about themselves in French, using familiar vocabulary.

The second booklet is called, "J'aime." The first two pages simply have "J'aime ___" on them. Children usually write the names of family members on those, but, since it's a completely open-ended exercise, they can choose whatever or whomever they like (... or love). The next pages have sentences with infinitive verbs (e.g. "J'aime manger ____" and "J'aime jouer ___").

Les livrets - Je suis reconnaissant(e)

This package includes two versions of a simple fold-and-staple booklet. They can be printed on 8 1/2"x11" paper, and are 5 sheets each. The students can decorate and colour in the cover, and fill in the eight subsequent half-sheet pages.

The booklet has two versions. One is for girls (Je suis reconnaissante). The other is for boys (Je suis reconnaissant).

The booklet is about being thankful (reconnaissant)," and has eight pages including, "Je suis reconnaissant pour cette personne: _______,"(x2) "Je suis reconnaissant pour cette nourriture: __________." "Je suis reconnaissant pour ________." It includes 3 other simple sentences that will help them tell about the things in their lives for which they are thankful in French, using familiar vocabulary.

PRIOR to completing the booklets, I introduce the vocabulary, have a community circle, and brainstorm ideas on the SMART board/chart paper. Then, the children mill to music (i.e. walk around the classroom while listening to snip-its of French songs). When the music stops, they talk to each other about all he things for which they are thankful (en français, bien sûr)! After they've had a chance to talk about their ideas, they start writing their booklets.

(I encouraged my students to use a picture dictionary for unfamiliar words or to check for spelling.)

Les livrets - Je vois & Je peux

This package includes two simple fold-and-staple booklet. They can be printed on 8 1/2"x11" paper, and are 5 sheets each. The students can decorate and colour in the cover, and fill in the eight subsequent half-sheet pages.

The first booklet (Je vois) has is a simple book using the sight words "Je vois" and "aussi" in 4 different contexts. For example, "Chez moi, je vois ______" and on the following page, "Je vois aussi _________ chez moi." "Au zoo, je vois _____." with "Je vois aussi _______ au zoo." This pattern repeats itself in two other cntexts.

The second booklet (Je peux) has two versions of the title page. One is for girls with a girl superhero. The other is for boys with the boy superhero. The rest of the booklet has several different possible variations. There is a copy of each context with two pages (similar to the Je vois book: "Chez moi, je peux _____." and on the following page, "Je peux aussi ______ chez moi." and "Au printemps, je peux _______." with "Je peux aussi ______ au printemps." There is a pair of pages for each season. The file also includes the pages without the second sentence using the same context. (e.g. first page could say, "Au printemps je peux _____." and the subsesquent page would say "En été, je peux _______."

I recommend choosing 4 sheets (which will translate to an 8-page book) and a cover. (Unless you have a heavy-duty stapler and children who love to write LONG books!! ) There are many pages from which to choose (there are 21 writing pages in the file, not including the covers).

PRIOR to completing the booklets, I introduce the vocabulary, have a community circle, and brainstorm ideas on the SMART board/chart paper. Then, the children mill to music (i.e. walk around the classroom while listening to snip-its of French songs). When the music stops, they talk to each other about all the things they might wish to write (en français, bien sûr)! After they've had a chance to talk about their ideas, they start writing their booklets.

(I encouraged my students to use a picture dictionary for unfamiliar words or to check for spelling.)

Les livrets - Dans ma famille

This is a fold-and-staple booklet. It can be printed on 8 1/2"x11" paper, and is 5 sheets per book. The students can illustrate the cover, and fill in the 8 subsequent half-sheet pages.

PRIOR to completing the booklets, I introduce the vocabulary, have a community circle, and brainstorm ideas on the SMART board/chart paper. Then, the children mill to music (i.e. walk around the classroom while listening to snip-its of French songs). If they haven't already learned about it, it's a great opportunity to introduce the difference between "mon" and "ma" and/or those sight words.

Les livrets - C'est l'Halloween

This package includes two simple fold-and-staple booklet. They can be printed on 8 1/2"x11" paper, and it is recommended that they be 5 sheets each. You can select the 4 inner sheets that will work best for your students. The students can decorate and colour in the cover, and fill in the eight subsequent half-sheet pages.

The first booklet (L'Halloween) has is a simple book using the words "À l'Halloween" in several different contexts. For example, "À l'Halloween, je vois ______" and on the following page, "À l'Halloween, j'aime _______." "À l'Halloween, je porte _____." with "À l'Halloween, je mange ___________".

The second booklet (Les couleurs de l'Halloween) has 2 possible variations. One version has "À l'Halloween, ______ est noir." repeated on two pages, while the other has "À l'Halloween, _________ est gris."

Both booklets have two different versions: one has opaque letters (intended solely for reading), while the second version has ruled, dotted letters, intended to help with both writing AND reading practice.

I recommend choosing 4 sheets (which will translate to an 8-page book) and a cover. (Unless you have a heavy-duty stapler and children who love to write LONG books!!)

PRIOR to completing the booklets, I introduce the vocabulary, have a community circle, and brainstorm ideas on the SMART board/chart paper. Then, the children mill to music (i.e. walk around the classroom while listening to snip-its of French songs). When the music stops, they talk to each other about all the things they might see on Halloween (en français, bien sûr)! After they've had a chance to talk about their ideas, they start writing their booklets.

(I encouraged my students to use a picture dictionary for unfamiliar words or to check for spelling.)

The first booklet (Les couleurs de Noël) has is a simple book featuring 10 different colours. Each page says “À Noël, je vois vert/rouge/blanc/noir/bleu quand je regarde _______” This way, the colours themselves don’t have to change.
