Similar to my simple sounds activity, these cards were designed to help students practice their inverted and three-letter syllables. They can be cut, laminated and used in learning center activities but I prefer using them as a whole-group pocket chart game.
I start by placing the cards in a pocket chart. At the beginning of the year, I place the cards in order (ex: al, el, ol, il, ul él). As my munchkins get more fluent throughout the year, I add more cards. I randomly choose 3-4 cards and hide a yellow heart behind them. Each student gets a turn to read a card. Once they’ve read, I ask them to come up to the pocket chart and check if there is a yellow heart hiding behind their card. If so, they are rewarded with a little treat such as a lollipop or a small eraser. This little incentive helps keep my students attentive, on-task and motivated. I hope you enjoy this activity as much as I do!
