I'm a big fan of using small-group games to promote student engagement in my classroom (and, since I teach mostly high schoolers, to make sure that students who finish their work early ALWAYS have something fun and/or constructive to do that DOESN'T involve playing with their cell phones!). Here's one that's seen success with my 9th-12th graders.
This is a quick Memory game that works well in student pairs to review and practice French verb conjugations. This packet includes seven different game templates (each with 16 cards) designed to practice the following common regular and irregular verbs: etre, avoir, aller, faire, parler (to represent -ER verbs), grossir (to represent -IR verbs), and perdre (to represent -RE verbs).
In this version of Memory, no two cards are identical. To make a “match,” students should pair each subject pronoun with the correctly conjugated verb form that corresponds to it. For instance, when practicing the verb “avoir,” the card with the pronoun “nous” would be matched with the card displaying the verb form “avons.”
Happy playing! :)
