In this STEM/NGSS lesson, students observe a chunk of ice floating in water. They draw a particle model and predict whether the water level will rise, stay the same, or sink once the ice is melted. Students then explore 5 fragments of multimedia information to piece together the relationship between temperature and H2O volume and density as the sample cools. Students then revisit the phenomenon and attempt to explain why the water level did not change.
