Elemental Gardeners Garden Ecology can be utilized alone or in conjunction with the other six Elemental Gardeners lessons for a complete unit of study on growing edible plants and living sustainability.
In this lesson plan students will learn the elements of a garden eco-system and how they affect plant growth. The technique of companion planting will be introduced along with how to learn which insects and other garden creatures are pests or beneficials. Students will investigate the three P’s of beneficial insects; predators, parasites and pollinators; and honeybees are covered in depth. The ability of plants and insects to communicate will also be examined.
This lesson plan includes educational literature, a Honeybee Pollination Freeze Age game, homemade garden pest remedies, herbal bug repellant, and herbal bug bite balm recipes, a vocabulary list, and a suggested reading list.
