NOTE: This lesson requires the use of actual models of tree cookies, aka tree ring slices. To acquire such specimens it is recommended that the instructor acquire them through a local source (usually for free), e.g., a local tree cutting service. I have found them to be most helpful and anxious to provide such specimens without cost. In addition, I do not recommend that you acquire any pine specimens because they are very 'sappy' and hard to handle for a long time after cutting.
This entire lesson is expected to take three to four 50 minute class periods to complete.
