Product Description
This lesson is about excerpts from Zitkala-Sa (Gertrude Bonnin) and Alexander Eastman, two Native American authors writing around the turn of the 20th century. Zitkala-Sa embraced her Native spiritual beliefs while Eastman assimilated to Christianity, yet both share some similar values such as pride in their Native culture. This lesson ties in with history--particularly Manifest Destiny and its effects--as well as highlights the importance of figurative language, symbolism, and other literary devices writers frequently use. The lesson also uses compare and contrast techniques in terms of themes, tones, etc.
