This is a lesson plan that addresses determining the meaning of unfamiliar words and multiple meaning words, in particular (homophones). This lesson asks that students determine the meaning of homophones in context, while engaged in a reading of Jungle Party by Brian Wildsmith. If you have this book, then it is worth not having to write a lesson plan that you can use year after year. You can modify the lesson and adjust it according to your needs. It is in TC format, meaning all components are there: teaching point, aim, rationale, materials, motivate/connect, teaching, active engagement, link, and share. There is an activity that student love to do in the link portion of the lesson. I included pictures of the anchor chart and a student work sample. This will last 2 sessions, with day 2 prompting students to answer higher level questions about the story itself.
