This is one of eight chapters in the full book or app for iPads (which is available on iTunes). The menu concept recognizes that teachers do not like to be told how to teach but respond well to practical ideas where they choose which ones to use. Assessment is an inevitable part of education in most parts of the world. While testing dominates in some schools, the evidence is that assessment for learning - using assessment to inform teaching, to identify needs, to provide timely feedback and to set personal targets - has a far bigger impact upon attainment than regular testing. This chapter offers a range of innovative ways in which AfL can complement and enhance testing regimes. The ideas will work with most ages, subjects and grades.
