Struggling readers often have a number of obstacles to overcome in order to independently read with fluency, accuracy, and comprehension. It is important that students start off feeling confident and successful in reading. This Teacher's Guide was written as a companion to my book Swimming with the Fishes, but it contains lessons that can be used with any text to support developing readers. The lessons in this Teacher's Guide introduce students to various strategies they can practice while reading their books independently. These strategies will help them to develop the skills that good readers use.
