Great Big House is the third in my Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer Lesson series. This is a fun and catchy play party folk song from Louisiana. The repetitive melody and limited pitches make this an easy and fun song for beginners. This is based on a DAD tuning system. The zipped file offers both a pdf and a powerpoint with included audio. The 160 page power point is designed for a 45 minute class but can be stretched into two class periods. This resource is designed for the beginning music reader. Foundations of reading on the grand staff, drill on the fret board, pitch drill for notes D E F# G A B, and rhythm strumming review are included. The notation of the song includes the dulcimer tabalature and also background midi accompaniment, both slow and fast. As a great bonus this power point includes "virtual dulcimer" slides with sampled tones from the dulcimers I use in class. Press the circle to hear the note! This is useful for class demonstration, and if you don't have enough dulcimers for everyone, but they have their own one on one devices that will operate a power point, you can have the students download the file and play the song virtually, which I think they will really enjoy. Also offered are suggestions for differentiation and a step by step teacher guide.
The Preview File includes snip its of all the slides in the power point.
I hope you enjoy! Thanks for looking! Be on the lookout for lesson 4, coming soon!
