This bundle contains resources to help you teach or review seven RL standards for sixth grade using quality literature.

Every activity in this resource is about a chapter of Esperanza Rising. Your students will need to read Esperanza Rising in order to use these resources.

This product contains lessons for the following standards. The chapter of Esperanza Rising that you'll need to read to teach each standard is in parentheses.

    RL.6.1 (Chapter 1 -- Las Uvas)

    RL.6.2 (Chapter 13 -- Las Uvas)

    RL.6.3 (Chapter 11 -- Los Esparragos)

    RL.6.4 (Chpater 2 -- Las Papayas)

    RL.6.5 (Chapter 5 -- Los Melones)

    RL.6.6 (Chapter 4 -- Las Guayabas)

    RL.6.10 (Whole-book review)

    For each standard, you'll receive:

    A Detailed Lesson Progression

Four pages of suggestions about how you can use the resources to teach an engaging lesson for each standard.

    2 Discussion Topics

Two discussion topics for each standard. The topics ask students to talk about the chapter of Esperanza Rising and are aligned with a specific standard.

    1 Writing Prompt

Students will have to write an in-depth response about the chapter. Each writing prompt is aligned with a specific standard.

    2 Quizzes

Each quiz contains 3 multiple-choice questions and 1 written-response question about a chapter of Esperanza Rising. All questions align with a specific standard. Questions are written to meet the rigor of the standard while not confusing students.

    Google Resources

In addition to these paper resources, all quizzes are also available for Google Classroom. The self-grading quizzes were created using Google Forms. Clicking the links on page 2 of each file will allow you to make copies to your Google Drive. You can then edit the quiz questions if you need to. You must have a Google Classroom account to utilize this. Otherwise, just print the quizzes on paper.
