Product Description
Looking for guided and shared reading books that coordinate/concentrate on the same nonfiction topic? Fun foldables and graphic organizers to use with the books? Writing and research on the same nonfiction topic? This unit may be just what you are looking for!
My children love anything that has real photos. I have designed my "Lessons in a Jiffy" series to catch their attention with the cool photos. The activities are designed to go hand-in-hand, choose to do a few of them or all of them, your planning/prep time will be minimal.

Specifically in this unit you will find the following:

-4 ‘look and discuss’ picture prompts with quick write response sheets
-a read aloud that uses real pictures
-One set of 3 levels of readers to use in guided reading in color and black and white (easy, medium and hard-with varying levels of length and complexity of vocabulary.) All of the texts cover the same basic material/topic. I have even included one black and white copy with pictures and no words for the children to write their own to go with the picture!
-circle map in color and black and white
-5 “t-charts” (can, have are charts) about different spiders in color and black and white
-3 foldables to use for collecting information as you go back into the text. Topics: types of spiders, spider facts, & spiders (Main Idea with 4 key details).
-12 “Wanted Posters” (short information sheets about several spiders)
-Spider research booklets to record information as they go (with foldable version)
- Spider vocabulary booklet to record vocabulary as they go (with foldable version)
-21 spider writing prompts to write about what they have learned
-“K-W-L” spider chart to use all along the way (Color and B&W)
-comprehension sheet that requires critical thinking as well as going back into the text to find answers
-Vocabulary review sheet
-Spider “crown” and Spider Life Cycle “crown” with cutouts to attach
-“Spin & Discuss” picture wheels
-“Spin & Write” picture wheels with foldable response sheet
-7 “Let’s compare” Venn diagrams (t-chart variety) comparing spiders to other animals (in color and black & white)
-5 “Standard” Venn diagrams
-Spider Body Parts (Poster {color}, Labeled {color and B&W}, Let’s Label {B&W})
-Spider Life Cycle (Poster {color}, Labeled {color and B&W}, Let’s Label {B&W})

Depending on how many of the coordinating activities you decide to use, this unit can either last a few days or more than a week! With this high interest topic, your children will be engaged and having fun while getting much needed exposure to informational non-fiction texts!
