This interactive SMARTBOARD lesson begins with a brief teacher directed lesson - a mini lesson. Students then enjoy two video shorts with high interest level that allow for discussion about what they inferred. Last there are 6 slides that ask the student to read a paragraph and answer a question based on an inference. The mini lesson introduces or reviews how inferences are made using background knowledge (schema) and text evidence to reach their own inference. The 6 slides with scenarios to read before determining their own inference or prediction are all self checking. All slides are great catalyst for discussion about the inferences that are made and students should support their answers with both their own schema and with text evidence in the reading and the videos. Created with Smart Notebook 11. Great for intermediate grades or even junior high school.
