Best for grades 3-4.
Here is a little poem that celebrates the priority of play. It specifically refers to President Lincoln's commitment to encouraging his own children to laugh, have fun, and play. The Civil War was raging and times were grim, but their playing through the halls and rooms of the White House brought joy. The poem is followed by 9 questions that help us think about what play means to each of us, and then an opportunity to draw two pictures. These pictures of ours, along with other pictures we found of children playing all around the world filled a bulletin board that we entitled simply,"Play."
Also included as an extra item, is an mp4 video file to the original song, "Let Them Play." This song is a musical setting of the above poem. With this mp4 video file, One Arts Infusion Collaborative has created a way for classroom teachers, utilizing their computers or smartboards, to sing with their students about the glory and immense importance of play.
