Description

This unit includes a week's worth of cross-curricular social studies and ELA lessons. They can be taught all together, or you can pick and choose what works for you at different times. Each day's plan can be a stand-alone lesson.

The goals of this unit are to have students identify the elements of protests, analyze the effectiveness of a variety of protest methods as elements of change, and recognize the importance to any protest in the solidarity of the message of the group protesting. Students will achieve these goals by studying historic and current protests and organizations, analyzing a variety of primary source documents, and engaging in open and frank discussions about the difficulties injustices create.
