Product Description

Does your school desperately need a new playground? Do you want to help your school get a new playground but aren't sure where to start?

This resource will guide you through a Project Based Learning unit meant to help empower you and your students to advocate for a new playground by creating a multimedia presentation.

In this unit, your students will employ the A3 problem-solving process to analyze your school playground issue and use research to suggest new playground equipment that best meets the needs of your community. The A3 process is a problem solving tool Toyota developed to foster learning, collaboration, and personal growth in employees. This process can be used to solve problems and propose policy changes. By working through this process, your students will learn how to investigate the background of a problem, assess the current conditions of the problem, develop targets/goals to work towards solving the problem, analyze why the problem occurred in the first place, and propose countermeasures to meet targets and goals.

Included in this unit:

  • Unit Overview: This component provides you with an overview of the learning intentions, success criteria, driving question, tasks, and entry event for the unit. This outline follows the work of Rigorous PBL by Design author Michael McDowell.

  • Lesson Plans: 26 days of lesson plans to help you implement the unit step-by-step!

  • Lesson Materials included are:
    • A3 organizer to record work through the problem-solving process
