An acrostic is a phrase made up of words beginning with the first letter of other words. Acrostics are used to help students understand and remember concepts. In order to really understand a concept, you have to think deeply about that concept. This activity prompts students to really think deeply about broad social skill categories. Each broad category includes prompting questions to get the discussion started. Students are encouraged to have fun with it and to write more than one for each topic. The acrostics can then be repeated as "mantras" to help them remember what's important. Examples of completed acrostics are included for all social skills categories.
