This math flipchart for Promethean Board teaches students to identify corresponding fractions of a given set, represent fractions by coloring, and demonstrate a fraction from a description. This flipchart is aligned with 9.4 Houghton Mifflin Math - 1st grade. The lesson opens with a word problem in which students must use prior knowledge of fractions and dividing to solve, and use visual manipulatives to check answer. Next, is a quick review (test prep) and lesson quiz (pre-test) derived from the text. Next is a title page introducing the lesson and then a page stating the lesson's objectives. The lesson then introduces vocabulary term(s): fraction, along with the definition, visual, and a higher order thinking prompt. The first activity invites students to identify the fraction that names the colored in portion of a group of animals. Next, students are given a fraction and pictures and are invited to color in the appropriate number of items to represent the fraction - one suggestion: allow students to do this in partners on paper, then check whole group on the Promethean Board. Next, students are shown a picture of animals and asked to answer questions about the picture using fractions. The next several pages consist of a show-down activity in which students are asked to take out their markerboards (or paper) and answer the questions about the pictures shown. The next page allows for review and closure. Last is a math journal prompt that incorporates drawing.
