If you are looking for an activity that focuses on practical application of social skills, creative thinking, and production then please see the attached file. It is a board game making project and I am starting it this week with my kids. Below are some session suggestions to get you started.
o Discuss what board games are
o Recognize different kinds of board games and their type category
§ Candy Land (fun, traditional)
§ Hi Ho Cherry-O (fun)
§ Scrabble (thinking)
§ Battleship (strategy)
o Have example board games out and ready for the students to consider and compare
o Have students consider what their favourite board game is, identify or show it, and categorize it into a type category.
o Students consider appropriate rules when working in a group
o With appropriate supports, students produce a list of rules
o Decide the kind of game and the game pieces
o Decide on the rules of the game and produce a list of game rules
o Design game board
o Produce game board
You get the idea! This resource was originally produced for a school that has half-hour sessions, so this project can take up fewer sessions than listed above.
