This set of activities is just a piece of what I use to teach economy in my class. I typically break up the vocabulary in sections and do two to five terms a day, then proceed with an activity that reinforces those terms specifically.
The class activities incorporated were created because our text was low in these concepts. An overall focus for fourth grade economics is how the economy (its processes and the currency) have changed over time. TRADE pictures can be used as a visual posted on a white board or document camera to start discussion about what was originally used as currency. Changing the Face of Money title and explanation can be used on a bulletin board with the students’ economic creations. Types of Propaganda are covered because advertising greatly changed how our economic system worked, as well. Causing more business and competition to occur is not usually a concept covered in texts, either.
If you have a computer lab time, a plan is included to let the students explore and look into the United States Mint.
Create Your Own Product, can be a replacement assessment for your economics unit, instead of a quiz or test.
