"Ferris Wheel" is an original upbeat tune in triple meter. It has become my students' favorite song to move to, sing, and perform. Simple Tonic-Dominant chord progression and a clear AB form leads to endless possibilities, from creating simple dances to transferring chord roots to classroom percussion instruments and adding ukulele accompaniment. This teaching sequence is designed for Music Learning Theory inspired classroom.

This Slide Show focuses on tonic and dominant functions.

~First, students are acculturated to the song: melody, chord roots, form, and tonality

~Next, students are guided in singing and reading tonic and dominant patterns

~Finally, students can enhance their understanding of tonic and dominant by listening to

and identifying tonic and dominant functions with a simple click of a mouse

Let's Read challenge is a great resource for students who are ready to connect their oral/aural music skills to reading, writing, and composing.

Let's Read! is inspired and guided by the sequential approach to literacy as described in Music Learning Theory by Dr. Edwin Gordon.
